She knew every popped vein in that rage-wrinkled forehead, the rhythmic pulsing of the man’s heart, and the way his eyes always seemed to pop out of his skull. “Today you have proven what I have said all along: you are useless, and utterly without value to the Clan!”

The radio crackled, “I don’t know,” a Mechwarrior she didn’t recognize drawled. “This Archer’s pretty beat up and this company is short two `Mechs. Her Star obviously did considerable damage before they were beaten. If they claimed her as a bondsman, she would have no choice but to obey. For all you know, they forced her to record those responses. Do you even see her in the Banshee’s cockpit?”

“Quiet, Steve!” Tython roared, his Annihilator swiveling like a mounted turret as it reversed towards a massive pillar of stone. “I will kill each and every one of these surats,” he paused as the Annihilator’s autocannons let loose with a rippling roar. Miranda bit her lip in concern as the Atlas weathered the full brunt of the Annihilator’s assault, the massive `Mech standing firm like an oak in a rainstorm—until a slug caught it square in the cheek. The back of its great domed head ruptured, belching smoke and flame. It staggered like a drunkard and for an instant before its slab-like foot shifted to arrest its fall, Miranda feared the worst.

“We will kill them all,” Tython Yeh seethed, “and then the witch will pay!”
